'Twas A Reason To Buy A PS2 On Launch
This is the first snowboarding game that I really got into. I had played the 1080 games on the N64, and had tried one or two, but it wasn't until this excellent game on the PS2 that I got into a snowboarding game. Hell, it's the first "sports" game I got into that wasn't hockey, and it's carried through all of it's sequels (save the PSP and N-Gage versions -- really, please people, just let them die in peace).
From the easy to pick up controls (despite my hatred of the dual-shock controller design), to the well-designed and challenging tracks, this game was fun. Pure and simple.
Each of the eight tracks could be completed as a race, and as a freestyle, where you could build up style points to eventually pull of the impressive, physics defying ubertricks.
Hell, much of the game was physics defying. A lot of the "survivable" drops and jumps would have easily killed you dead.
What was great about this game was that each of the characters was unique, with their own individual stats (unlike the game that followed) that increased as you won events. As you beat the courses with one racer (there was 4 available at the get-go), you'd unlock one of the remaining eight.
So, if you're looking for a great all-around PS2 snowboarding game, and want something cheap, look for this. You can probably find it in bargain bins somewhere...maybe.
